Domaine Ostertag
Domaine Ostertag is a renowned wine estate in Alsace, France, celebrated for its innovative winemaking and dedication to terroir expression. Located in the village of Epfig, the domaine was founded in 1966 by the Ostertag family and flourished under the leadership of the legendary André Ostertag, who took over in 1980. André was a visionary winemaker, known for pushing boundaries in Alsace with his artistic philosophy and biodynamic practices, which he adopted in the late 1990s. Sadly, André Ostertag passed away in October 2022, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that transformed the perception of Alsace wines worldwide. Today, the domaine is in the capable hands of Arthur Ostertag, André's son, who represents the next generation of the family. Having worked closely with his father for many years, Arthur has seamlessly taken over the reins, continuing the family's commitment to biodynamic farming and crafting wines that reflect the purity and complexity of Alsace's diverse terroirs. Arthur brings his own energy and vision to the domaine while honoring the principles and philosophy established by his father. The domaine cultivates 15 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious sites such as the Grand Cru Muenchberg, Fronholz, and Heissenberg. A wide range of grape varieties is grown, including Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, and Pinot Noir. The wines are crafted with low-intervention techniques, spontaneous fermentations, and careful aging, ensuring a profound sense of place in every bottle.
