Henri Jayer (Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy)

Often called the “Godfather of modern Burgundy”, Henri Jayer revolutionized Pinot Noir winemaking in the mid-20th century. He championed low yields, meticulous vineyard care, and gentle winemaking, producing wines of sensual texture and profound depth. His Cros-Parantoux, once an overlooked parcel, became a mythical vineyard thanks to his vision. Jayer retired in the late 1990s and passed away in 2006, but his philosophy endures as the blueprint for fine Burgundy. His wines remain among the rarest and most sought-after in the world.
